Personal Experience & Biography

Alison Merrick, B.A (Hons), MSc, D. Clin Psych, is a Clinical Psychologist who obtained her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Trinity College Dublin in 2012. Alison obtained her BA in Psychology in 2003 from University College Dublin (UCD). Upon completing her undergraduate degree in Psychology, she took up a position as an Applied Behaviour Analysis Tutor at an ABA school in Drogheda where she worked and trained for 18-months. She then completed her MSc in Applied Psychology from Trinity College Dublin while continuing to work with children on the Autism Spectrum. During her three years of clinical training, Alison has worked with clients across the lifespan; including child and adult primary care, early intervention and school age team in disabilities services, paediatric psychology in acute hospital settings, neuropsychology and memory clinics and psychiatry of later life. Alison then went on to work in various roles within the health service including adult mental health, school age disability and rehabilitation services. In her private practice, Alison provides therapeutic intervention and psychological assessment for young people and adults experiencing a broad range of needs from developmental difficulties, mood based difficulties, behavioural issues and learning difficulties such as dyslexia. Alison has a passion for supporting parents on their journey through parenthood to respond to the needs of the children they have and look after themselves in the process. She also has a huge interest in supporting children with ASD and complete further training around assessment and support of girls on the ASD spectrum. Alison provides an integrative psychotherapy approach that draws from evidence-based interventions including; Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Compassion-Focused therapy, Narrative therapy and Collaborative and Proactive Solutions all depending on the needs and preferences of the individual client or family she is working with.
