Occupational Therapy

Consultation, Assessments and Therapy

Our Occupational Therapy services are designed to provide a thorough understanding of your child’s needs across home, school and social environments. Occupational therapy supports children in developing the everyday skills they need to grow, play, and thrive.

Occupational therapy can support children who may be experiencing delays or challenges in areas such as movement, coordination, sensory processing, self-care routines, or social interactions. Occupational therapy strategies can also help to manage sensory issues, which may negatively affect your child’s behaviour and day to day life. It is also beneficial for children with additional needs, offering strategies and tools that empower both the child and their family.

An occupational therapy assessment allows the therapist to devise a specific plan for your child’s individual needs. The level of assessment or support needed will depend on your child needs and will be suggested by the occupational therapist.

8-Week RUBI Parent Training Program

We provide an 8-week, comprehensive training program for parents and caregivers based on the Research Units in Behavioural Intervention (RUBI) curriculum. The RUBI Parent Training Program is a well-researched, evidence-based curriculum designed to support families in addressing challenging behaviours effectively and compassionately.

Through RUBI, parents and caregivers learn practical, easy-to-apply strategies that promote cooperation, improve communication, and encourage positive behaviours in everyday life. The focus is not just on managing challenges in the moment, but on creating lasting change that can strengthen family dynamics over time.

Our primary goal is to empower parents and caregivers to develop individualised behaviour support strategies for their child. With the support of our Behaviour Therapists, parents and caregivers can implement effective interventions at home, which are designed to support long-term positive change.

Who Facilitates the Program?

All RUBI sessions are guided by our Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) and a team of Behaviour Therapists. This professional oversight guarantees that every family receives guidance that is both expert and compassionate.

Our supportive services and training include flexible options for families. We understand that every family has different needs and routines, which is why the RUBI program can be delivered in two formats:

Both options offer the same high-quality support, structured learning, and personalised feedback.

Toilet Training Support

Patience, structure, and positivity can help children reach important milestones in their own time, with confidence and success. Toilet training is one of the most important milestones in early childhood development – exciting, sometimes challenging, and a big step toward independence. Within the practice, we support parents and caregivers with the knowledge, strategies, and reassurance needed to make this stage as smooth and as positive as possible.

Every child’s toileting training journey is unique, and success begins with readiness. Instead of focusing on age, we look for physical, behavioural, cognitive, and emotional signs that show when a child is truly ready to begin the process. Waiting for readiness reduces stress, avoids unnecessary pressure, and helps create a positive experience for both the child and parent.

We guide families through the difference between habit training – building comfort and routine – and full toilet training, where a child independently recognises, communicates, and manages toileting needs. We also provide practical tools and strategies such as visual support, timers, rewards, and structured steps to build confidence.

Speech and Language Support

1:1 Online Speech & Language Parent Coaching Programme

Connection Kickstart™ is a one-to-one parent coaching program designed to help you support your child’s early communication in a way that feels natural and doable, even in the middle of everyday life.

Connection Kickstart™ is a 7-session parent coaching programme designed for families of children aged 2–5 who are developing communication in their own unique ways. It gives parents powerful, practical strategies to create more opportunities for interaction and shared joy at home. This often leads to new communication skills emerging and supports children’s growth on their unique communication journey.

The programme is based on Carolyn Webb’s book ‘A Parent’s Guide to Early Communication’ and uses two signature approaches: Parent Power Replay™, a simple video-reflection tool that quickly and effectively turns strategies into practice, and Notice and Nurture™, a short-term strategy that helps parents tune into subtle communication cues that might otherwise be missed. Together, these approaches have proven highly impactful — giving families fresh insight, stronger confidence, and clear ways to support their child’s progress.

Importantly, Connection Kickstart™ offers families meaningful support right away, providing a strong foundation for communication development even before any formal assessment has taken place. Parents often describe the programme as empowering and transformative: reducing stress, strengthening relationships, and helping communication blossom in natural and joyful ways.

AAC Device Training

1:1 or small group parent training available.

Communication devices, systems, strategies and tools that replace or support spoken language are known as Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). These tools support a person who has difficulties communicating using speech.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Device Training, an information session delivered by the Childrens Natural Environment Assessment Practice Speech & Language Therapist

Many individuals with communication difficulties, speech impediments and disorders can benefit from the use of AAC to express needs, wants and ideas.

The use of AAC can provide many benefits including increased independence and social connection, language and literacy skill development and it can help to reduce frustration and communication breakdown as it can provide a reliable communication method.

This training is carried out while maintaining a neuro-diverse affirming framework and supports communication for children with autism and other learning difficulties.

Within the practice, our Senior Speech and Language Therapist provides AAC device training for parents and families. Sessions can include online, in person and group training and aims to support your child, family and extended family. It is important that the use of AAC is consistent across all environments to ensure your child learns how to effectively use the communication device while continuing with their development.

Within the Early Intervention Class, also known as the Fledglings class, we offer 4-hour places under the Home Tuition Grant which is funded by the Department of Education. Outside of the Home Tuition Grant hours, which are 4 hours per day, we offer additional specialised programmes within our 5-hour places, which are overseen by our Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA).

This support is targeted towards parents and families at home and supports the continuation of programmes outside of the preschool environment. We provide Individualised Education Plans (IEP’s) for children within the Early Intervention class, an IEP is a plan outlining a child’s learning goals, strategies, and support needed to achieve those goals. Little Moo-Moos works alongside parents to ensure collaboration between school and home. Little Moo-Moos Playschool currently engages with a consultant Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA). The BCBA role is to supervise the educational assessments (VB MAPP/ABLLS/R) of each child and to design and overlook the implementation of an Individualised Education Plan for each child in the Early Intervention class.
